Dr. Mark Bearman has been practicing ophthalmology since 1989. He graduated summa cum laude with his bachelor's degree from the University of Texas and in 1984, and earned his medical degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where he was granted a merit scholarship from the state and became a member of the prestigious Tinsley Harrison Society. Dr. Bearman performed his residency in ophthalmology at the Oschner Medical Foundation in New Orleans, where he was chief resident, and a fellowship in oculoplastics in San Francisco, CA. He became board certified in ophthalmology in 1990.
Dr. Bearman has performed more than ten thousand cataract surgeries, and more than five thousand LASIK surgeries. He is an experienced ophthalmologist who also performs state-of-the-art vision correction techniques, such as PRK and implantation of intraocular contact lenses. Dr. Bearman was one of the first surgeons in Birmingham to begin using the ReSTOR lens, a multifocal lens that virtually eliminates the need for eyeglasses for patient with presbyopia. Dr. Bearman's dedication and unique home-like demeanor make his patients feel like members of his extended family. With his solid background in technology, the sophisticated expertise of a refractive eye surgeon, and extensive experience with the most advanced lasers, Dr. Bearman helps his patients achieve the best vision possible.
Dr. Bearman is a native of Birmingham, and after a long hiatus, returned home in 1997 where he serves as Medical Director at VisionFirst Eye Center. He has been a Clinical Investigator for several research companies, including Alcon Laboratories and Pharmacia. He is Board Certified in Ophthalmology and a member of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons.
Dr. Bearman and his wife, Jodi, live here in Birmingham with their son, Talor, and their three daughters – Blayke, Morgan, and Emory.
